From Monday morning, 3 June, when arriving by car at Vilnius Airport to meet or escort departing passengers, a short term stop will be possible in the newly built car park P2, which will be opened in front of the new departures terminal under construction.
All other services such as taxis and car-sharing will also move to this new car park until the autumn, when the reconstruction of Vilnius Airport's approaches will be completed and the entire central square (new traffic scheme) will be open for use.
This is the last and temporary phase of the traffic transformation, during which the reconstruction works will move to the other side of the central square at Vilnius Airport. From September onwards, the traffic system for cars and public transport in the vicinity of the airport will undergo a radical change, becoming much more permeable, as the entire reconstructed central square will be open for use.
From 3 June, the main entrance to the new car park will be temporarily relocated (see traffic scheme map).
In the autumn, once the reconstruction is completed, twice as many spaces will be available in the so-called "Kiss & fly" area for short-term stops. This area will be located under a new canopy that will protect arriving passengers from rain or snow. A major upcoming change from the autumn is that all the current parking areas will be merged into a single unit, doubling the capacity.
As a temporary change from June, in the summer, pedestrians will be able to use the new P2 walkway from the staging area directly to the departure terminal, either via the refurbished left-hand side of the old ramp, or via the inside of the arrivals terminal.
It should be recalled that due to the ongoing access reconstruction works, the vehicle exit ramp towards the existing departure terminal is permanently closed. Access to the existing departure terminal by car is limited to service vehicles and passengers with individual needs.
