Vilnius Airport opens up a new summer holiday destination – the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. The airline Wizz Air started direct flights on June 7. Flights from Lithuania to Montenegro are operated twice per week.
“Podgorica is another European capital that passengers can now directly reach from Vilnius. This destination opens up even wider possibilities for summer holidays for travellers in our region – from the mountains and lakes of Montenegro to sunny sea beaches. This development demonstrates the importance of our partnership with Wizz Air – we are constantly striving to offer passengers more choices and discoveries in Europe, where the tourism infrastructure is well developed and provides a great experience,” says Simonas Bartkus, CEO of Lithuanian Airports.
Montenegro is often referred to as the pearl of the Balkans. The capital of this country, Podgorica, is cozy with a population of about 180 thousand. It intertwines historical heritage, modern architecture and a calm southern rhythm of life. Travellers are attracted by the opportunity to walk through the old Stara Varoš quarter, visit the impressive Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, admire the Millennium Bridge, or take a breather in the green spaces of the city by the Moracha River. The city is a convenient starting point for exploring Montenegro’s natural treasures, from Lake Skadar to mountain routes and the Adriatic coast.
“We are delighted to welcome passengers on Wizz Air’s first flights between Vilnius and Podgorica. This new route further expands our flight network from Lithuania and gives travellers even more opportunities to explore Europe,” says Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Head of Corporate Communications at Wizz Air. He confirms that Montenegro is a destination that combines spectacular nature, rich cultural heritage and the Adriatic coast, making this country an attractive choice for Lithuanian travellers. “The opening of this route reflects our continued commitment to the Lithuanian market and our desire to offer affordable and comfortable travel opportunities throughout Europe,” emphasizes G. Imperiale.
The new Vilnius-Podgorica route will complement Wizz Air’s network of routes from Lithuania and provide travellers with even more opportunities to conveniently plan summer trips to Southern Europe. Flight tickets for this and other destinations are sold on the official website www.wizzair.com.
International guides point out that Podgorica is perfect for both a short weekend getaway and a longer trip around the country in search of authentic Balkan culture, warm hospitality and undiscovered experiences.
