On Wednesday, December 3, at 19:36, airspace above Vilnius Airport was temporarily closed due to a hybrid attack by Belarus targeting Lithuania, civil aviation and the public. Risk-inducing signals consistent with balloon-type objects were detected in aviation-sensitive areas. Operations at Vilnius Airport were restored at 21:06, once the airspace restrictions were lifted.

Later the same evening, at 22:24, after further detection of balloon-type navigation signatures, airspace above Vilnius Airport was closed again until the following day, December 4, at 00:56.

On December 4, at 01:15, additional balloon-type signals were recorded, prompting another temporary closure of airspace above the airport until 02:30.

In total, 27 flights and 3,134 passengers were affected by these airspace restrictions. Of these flights, 5 were diverted to Kaunas Airport, with passengers transported to Vilnius by bus; 17 flights experienced delays; and 5 flights were cancelled.

Passengers are reminded that some individual delays may occur on December 4 due to disrupted aircraft and crew rotations.

Travellers whose flights were disrupted or cancelled due to these restrictions are encouraged to contact their airline directly for further information. Flight updates are also available on the Vilnius Airport website.
